Curious how this might play out under NFHS. We can whack for foul language from coach to his own player, but where's your line for something prolonged / humiliating / if not nearly physical? Granted, you don't go there lightly or worry about coaching tactics, but where's the point when an over-the-top coach (who probably would hear it from his A.D. and/or parents later) is served T for non-profane berating of his own player? I didn't see anything after a quick (very quick) look in the rule and case books.

You can always hand out a technical foul for unsporting conduct...remember the rule lists some examples but it's not an exhaustive list. It's up to you and your assignor to draw the line.

Other than directing profane or inappropriate language to his players in a loud manner, I'm minding my own business.

Thumbs down Coach Choking Player, His Own Kid

During a home school tournament a coach got so infuriated with his son-player that grabbed him in a choke hold. This is one the parents that does not want his child subjected to all the bad things that go on in public schools.

There are lots of reasons parents choose to home school.

The highlighted sentence makes no sense. Yes, there are lots of reasons people choose to go that route. But, like many other choices in life, just don't force it on me as being the best choice for everyone, and for everyone to agree that it is.

Best thing

I was working a girls eighth grade game, about Z level. Girl goes up and grabs a defensive rebound, but in the process, her glasses get knocked off one ear, and are barely hanging on to the other.

She turns to the girl standing next to her -- from the other team -- and hands her the ball. She fixes her glasses and turns back to the opposing girl. She hands the ball back, and they all head down court.

I give the international referee signal for "I'm not sure what just happened" and everyone in the gym is laughing. As I job past the bench, one of coaches says, "Only in girls basketball ..."

I mention to the scorer "I'm glad my son doesn't play for that guy". Scorer, at some point repeats my comment to said coach who, in turn, seeks me out in the parking lot to convey his displeasure about my comment. Site admin confronts him and asks him to leave. Refuses...cops...yadda yadda...cited for trespassing, banned from remainder of tournament. Gotta love AAU.
Easy fix.

T for un-sportsmanlike conduct.
