Need advice.. Could any/all of you guys give me the correct interpretation of the rule regarding subtitutions in the last 59.9 seconds of theh second and addtional periods. It (NCAA Rules)tells you when it is not allowed so can I then say that any other time during the last 59.9 seconds is OK? What about if a violation is called, do the teams still need to call a time out to sub?

So to answer your question any whistle you can bring in a sub except as mentioned above.

Under a minute the timer should not buzz to allow a substitute to enter. If a whistle stops the clock (violation, foul) then the substitute may be admitted. And, of course, if a time-out is granted the sub may enter. mick |

check that link, go to the second page to B. Rules Clarifications. even though that's a women's memo, the same rules apply to ncaa men's. i'm with Bob Jenkins, Dhodges, i'd like to see an NF rules citation. Jake |

In your case a whistle stopped the clock, not merely the scored basket. So, yeah, let's bring 'em in. ![]() mick |

Confusing...what about after a made FT? Sub at the table during FT, shot made, don't you want the buzzer? [/B][/QUOTE] Tell me if this is proper substitution procedure during free throws. 1) 1 and 1 bouns, subs have reported to table already. Call in subs before first shot. Sub for shooter waits. First shot is missed, play on. or... During first try, another sub has reported. Shot is made. Do you then call in that new sub, or does he have to wait? If second shot is made, blow whistle and beckon sub for shooter in (what about any other subs?) 2) 2 shots, subs at table already. First shot made or missed. Beckon in all subs at table. Second shot missed, play on. Second shot made, blow whistle for shooter sub only. Again, can other subs who reported during first try enter then? If there was no shooter sub, I would not stop clock for any other subs waiting after a made basket. I guess my main question is, do all subs have to be at table before the entire free-throw sequence begins, or can they report in the middle of everything (and be beckoned in)? Thanks |

Marty, If they're at the table, and we have a dead ball with the clock stopped, I'm letting 'em in.

Chuck:
OK, so what you're saying is that they can sub in all of the instances I questioned (ball dead). But, you do stop the clock after made free-throw if there is a sub for the shooter. Otherwise, if there is no sub for the shooter you do not blow whistle for any other subs, correct? You are helping me to clear up a disagreement. Thanks |
