Exactly...and with the speed they move with at that level, it makes it more difficult to determine if a player gathers the ball with both feet in the air or with a foot on the ground. Players have mastered the gather...as you said...with a foot on the ground, taking their two step count...and going up with the ball...which gives a lot of "misinformed" fans the appearance that players are taking three steps.

I guess NBA officials didn't get the same memo you did.

And I'm sureashell not the only one that shares that view. I'm not a hater either. I just think that NBA officiating today is entertainment driven. I used to love watching NBA games. Now? Bleh! Sports entertainment like And 1. |

I dont know how the other sports grade their officials but 90% or better is how NBA officials grade out.

And if we want to talk about fouls, it's even worse at the lower levels. There's a reason people believe certain styles are acceptable in some conference compared to another. You've got your conference assignor who you're going to listen to...instead of what Adams says because he's not giving you games during the season. I can tell you that I have trouble knowing what a foul is because what's a foul in the Big XII might not be a foul in the Big East. Add the fact that there are many more officials and that makes the NCAA "consistent in its inconsistency." I think CLH's and some other's (including me) frustration is that you never give your opinion on the play unless the clip is from NCAA or high school. It seems like you always give us the same spiel that "stars get the calls, there's no traveling, I don't know what a foul is, it's the NBA, not the refs." You post all this without fail if the NBA is mentioned. I would suggest that sometimes, just give an answer without giving us your unchanging opininion, but I won't tell you how to post because apparently that is something you hold dear and we've seen how maturely you react about that subject.

The other part that is different is that a player upon gathering the ball can not touch the floor consequently with the same foot.

a. A pivot takes place when a player, who is holding the ball, steps once or more than once in any direction with the same foot, with the other foot (pivot foot) in contact with the floor. b. If the player wishes to dribble after a pivot, the ball must be out of his hand before the pivot foot is raised off the floor. If the player raises his pivot off the floor, he must pass or attempt a field goal before the foot is returned to the floor. If he fails to follow these guidelines, he has committed a traveling violation. Section XIII—Traveling a. A player who receives the ball while standing still may pivot, using either foot as the pivot foot. b. A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball. A player who receives the ball while he is progressing must release the ball to start his dribble before his second step. The first step occurs when a foot, or both feet, touch the floor after gaining control of the ball. The second step occurs after the first step when the other foot touches the floor, or both feet touch the floor simultaneously. A player who comes to a stop on step one when both feet are on the floor or touch the floor simultaneously may pivot using either foot as his pivot. If he jumps with both feet he must release the ball before either foot touches the floor. A player who lands with one foot first may only pivot using that foot. A progressing player who jumps off one foot on the first step may land with both feet simultaneously for the second step. In this situation, the player may not pivot with either foot and if one or both feet leave the floor the ball must be released before either returns to the floor. c. In starting a dribble after (1) receiving the ball while standing still, or (2) coming to a legal stop, the ball must be out of the player’s hand before the pivot foot is raised off the floor. d. If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor. If he drops the ball while in the air, he may not be the first to touch the ball. e. A player who falls to the floor while holding the ball, or while coming to a stop, may not gain an advantage by sliding. f. A player who attempts a field goal may not be the first to touch the ball if it fails to touch the backboard, basket ring or another player. g. A player may not be the first to touch his own pass unless the ball touches his backboard, basket ring or another player. h. Upon ending his dribble or gaining control of the ball, a player may not touch the floor consecutively with the same foot (hop).
