Exactly...and with the speed they move with at that level, it makes it more difficult to determine if a player gathers the ball with both feet in the air or with a foot on the ground. Players have mastered the gather...as you said...with a foot on the ground, taking their two step count...and going up with the ball...which gives a lot of "misinformed" fans the appearance that players are taking three steps.
