I can't imagine any coach with half a brain not taking offense, unless you had already built up a good rapport with him. It just seems condescending to me.

Bingo. I've been around the block a few times, so the veterans know me quite well. Wouldn't try it on a rookie, and wouldn't suggest that a rookie try it, that's for sure.
