Grabs the ball

17 seconds left in the half, I'm new trail going to administer the throw-in. I designate spot and start to move away making eye contact with my partners.

Suddenly the player grabs the ball and throws it in. I said, "Hey!" and blew my whistle and reset the clock to 17 seconds.

First time anything like that had happened. Did I do the correct thing?
