Stop for a shoelace?

B-1 inbounds to B-2 in front of Team B bench. After the throw-in, B coach says, "I see a shoelace untied. Stop." I look at him oddly.

At the next dead ball, the shoelace is dealt with. I tell the coach that I'm not going to stop the game for a shoelace (except on a dead ball, no clock running). Coach B says, "we have before!"

Anyone ever have this one?

5th grade? Maybe.

High school? Not a chance. Tell him to use a practice teaching his kids to tie their shoes.

Not me. Waiting for the next stoppage.

I had a player's shoe come off today....and there it was until the next dead ball.

Not stopping. The coach can teach the art of the double knot.

Or he can have his point guard back out and stall while his other player ties his shoe.

Maybe they will add tying shoes that delay FT administration as one of the DOG warnings. That'd fix him.

À la John Wooden.

Come to think of it, he ran out of time outs! I can't remember if this came before or after he spent the last one (not that it matters).

Gap, I don't know about DOG warnings, but sometimes I wonder if it should fall under the same as an untucked shirt.

Nah, if the player wants to play with it untied, I'm not going to stop him.

Absolutely. I see too many varsity officials stopping play for this, placing the other team at a potential disadvantage. How do you know the coach does not teach this as a tactic to stop the clock? As astute coach may.
