For some reason I thought that players could fix contact issues without us making them leave the game as we would if they were injured. The only rules backing I can find for that is 5-11 exception a. Maybe I am just misremembering something that I read somewhere.

You're not wrong. But if they need to leave the game to fix it, standard injury rules apply.
