Contact lense- stopping play

1. Don't have my books here with me. I will look this up as soon as I can.

2. I thought there was a thread on this recently but I can't find it.

GV, points & time don't matter. A1 scores. B1 inbounds to B2 as A1 coach is yelling ( can't tell what he is saying). I am new trail, in A's backcourt next to A's bench. B2 is dribbling and in no hurry, not attacking the basket. Makes to about three steps when I can tell A3 has a problem and realize coach A is saying A3's contact came out. I stop play, A6 comes in for A3. B's coach, actually assistant because the HC was no longer with us :D goes nuts. His beef is "we had the ball". I explain that his team was not attacking the basket and that is why I stopped play. His team of course retains possession blah blah blah sideline throw in for B. Was I correct in stopping play?

Sounds good to me.

There is a case play to stop play immediately for eyeglasses on the court. I would file this under that same category (Most wear soft contacts these days, but you never know).

You did good. Coach needs to shut up.

I had the same thing the other day but the A1 player was fouled and shooting two. He lost his contact on contact. I allowed a sub to come in to shoot the freethrows as the looser of the contact went to trainer to get it put back in. In my mind it was like an injury. Not sure if that makes things any different or not. But sounds like I may have gotten that one right as well. Any thoughts?

You got it right.

Good deal! I ment to ask that and forgot. Thanks!

Just don't let him come back in until the next sub opportunity after the clock has properly started.

I had the exact same thing. Girl got poked in the eye while shooting.
What was funny/remarkable was that she was a slasher, aggressive player. Here she was at the line, holding her contact in her hand, and forlornly states, "I can't see the basket" like a little 5-year old. Kinda caught me off guard.

I just hope that you guys are asking the captains who wears contacts, and are indicating said players in the scorebook.

Yep, right after I explain the correctable error rule to them.

You let them off easy. I make them explain the correctable error rule to me.

"Yes, sir. That's like, when I was playing shortstop. A grounder went right between my legs. Coach took me out, right in the middle of the ending:D
and put another guy in my place."

For some reason I thought that players could fix contact issues without us making them leave the game as we would if they were injured. The only rules backing I can find for that is 5-11 exception a. Maybe I am just misremembering something that I read somewhere.

You're not wrong. But if they need to leave the game to fix it, standard injury rules apply.
