Hoophall Classic

Six local referees officiate nationally televised games at 2011 Spalding Hoophall Classic | masslive.com

Big shock that they hire officials that don't even work HS games anymore (see the comments).

Hmmmmm.....I thought that local IAABO Boards were responsible for assigning all games played in their jurisdiction. If so, I'm kinda wondering too why they'd assign the games that way.

You do realize who the rules interpreter of that particular board is, don't you? A long time esteemed member here. Methinks I'll ask him about this...if you haven't already.

I haven't. I'm sure quite a few of the officials still work HS games. But if the comment of "haven't worked a HS game in 5 years" is true, it's disappointing that guy would even be asked to do this one.

Why do you come to that conclusion? Not everyone has the ability to work those games. Someone has to work those games and I certainly am not going to pick the average official. Just saying.

Peace

Agree with Jeff. we don't know all of the info as to how/why the games were assigned that way. Heck, we really don't know anything yet for sure.

This is a common misconception. IAABO is a training organization, period. IAABO is not a rule-making organization or an assigning authority. (In some areas -- in CT, for example -- the local school district allows the IAABO board to pick its own assignor.) In my neck of the woods, each scholastic conference or AAU tournament or youth league chooses its own assignors. The assignor is free to use whomever he/she wants, although our IAABO board obviously lobbies for assignors to use officials from our board.

I stand corrected. It's basically a state decision re: method of assigning.

IAABO is still recognized as the official rules interpreting body by some states though, correct?

Thanks.
