In this situation ...
Watch this video.
My question here is should the Lead official have come in and try to break this up? It is an 8th-grade game. It appears he sees the entire play. Just curious to see what you all think.

Looks to me like he's watching the shot on the other side of the lane; which is where he should be looking on this play. By the time he sees what's going on and gets close, it looks like the coaches were already in there pulling the kid off.
This video makes me wonder, though: 1. What's been going on all game between these two. 2. Looks like B bumped W: W shoved B: and B responded with a clothes line, a takedown, and a few punches. That's fast escalation, so there had to be something more. Did W say something as he pushed B? Just curious.

I'm with Snaqs. By the time the L sees what's going on, the coaches are already breaking it up. Just stand back and take numbers (and don't put yourself at physical or legal risk, since there is no need to).
