Rules Informational for Youth Coaches - LGP
I am working on an informational document for youth coaches (5-8th grade) that contain definitions of some rules. The coaches do have NFHS rule books, this is more of a simplified cheat sheet they may actually read. Working on LGP right now. Any help on my definition and rules reference below would be greatly appreciated.
Legal Guarding Position (LGP) [4-23]:
Legal Guarding Position (LGP) is the legal position a defender may assume to guard a player. [4-23-2] To obtain, a defender must have both feet on the court and be facing an opponent. [4-23-3c] This position is maintained even when the defender moves backward, sideways, [4-23-3d] or rises vertically. [4-7-2b] [10-6-8] LGP is lost when the offensive player gets both head and shoulders in advance of the defender. [4-23-1] [10-6-1] There is no LGP for a player that contacts with an extended arm, shoulder, hip, leg, [4-23-3c] or if the defender is moving forward toward the offensive player.
Thanks,
Steve
