Reference Material

Hey,
So I'm just wondering where you get the reference material (rules, positioning, etc) that you guys are always alluding to in your posts? Do I need to know a special password and a secret handshake? Just kidding.

But that would be repetitively redundant.

Hey. I pay $12.00 a year, and have to jump through a lot of hoops, to have access to the NFHS online rulebook, and casebook. Do you expect me to type out all my NFHS rulebook, and casebook, citations?

Note to NFHS copyright attorneys: I really do type out all my NFHS rulebook, and casebook, citations. Really. You believe me? Right?

I'm not an attorney, but I don't think it matters whether you type or copy/paste when it comes to copyright law.

Fair Use doctrine -- look into it.

Snaq's point cuts across fair use: determining whether a particular use is fair will not depend at all on whether the user has typed vs. cut/paste the text.

I'm not an attorney, nor do I play one on television. Does that mean that we have to paraphrase the rulebook, or casebook, citation every time we post such a citation here on the Forum?

But didn't you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night? At least that's what my wife told me.

Wait a minute!

I looked into it, and as byron states, it's silent on the particular topic; indicating to me that there's no legal distinction between copy/paste and typing out a quotation. I see no logical reason to make that distinction, either, so I can only assume you misunderstood my post.

Nope, not at all. I think our postings here, for the most part, constitute fair use.

You can see more info here at the US Copyright Office.
