Thumbs up Gulf Coast Blue's Web

For everyone that is fairly new on this forum, I strongly
suggest you check out GulfCoastBlues web. When you get
there go to handouts and copy the DP/DEFO articles...You
will need the Myths also. He has some great stories in
that section too.

BTW Joel,
I don't think you could have done better on the pics of ole
Steve...That photographer was in good position. Now when I
read all those good posts by Steve M. I know who is supplying
that quality info, [is that a suck up or what?] Accurate
anyway..Com'on Don, Mike, Sam, Gary, Scott, Elaine, Bob
and all you other blues, send Joel some photos...Load up his
umpire section. Joel, see you at AFA State if not sooner.

Red face Thanks Don, guess I should have included the easiest way to get there...

You and Gary send in photos...I have met Gary, but he needs
to be in the book as do you and others...

BTW Gary, your DD's team coming to AFA State in July?? Looks
like it will take place back at the old complex, the new one
is too expensive for us to utilize...Nationals [18U] will
also be in the old complex...Although they are still trying
to reach an agreement.

Don,

Advanced school was great. Met a lot of nice people but didn't find anyone who admitted to frequenting this board. However, I did find some blues that know ANDY. I enjoyed my time there, but was ready to head home on Sunday. Some of my friends think I'm nuts to take a week vacation to spend in umpire gear in the hot Texas summer.

The ISF course was crammed into one day. In the afternoon we took a 100 question test. The rest of the certification process involved plate and field mechanics. I did pretty good on the test, but will have to wait for ISF to process the results with the mechanics scores.

We called an 18Gold National Qualifier as part of the school. Great teams, great play . . . and good umpiring! What a combination! My first game was behind the plate on the first night of the tourney. I go out for the plate meeting with coaches and find Dave Epperson and eight other blues from the school behind the plate by the video recorder. NO PRESSURE!!! Henry Pollard and Billy Peterson made several appearances during the game. After I got over my initial nervousness, I had a great time. The team that was victorious in my game ended up winning the tournament.

I would highly recommend that every blue get out that video camera and have someone tape a game for them. Things aren't always the way you thought they were.

I won't be calling in Plano this weekend. It was strongly "suggested" that I not appear on the field. I don't want to jeopardize my chances at ASA Metro or National assignments. It was interesting to hear a high ranking ASA official say that he had no problems with calling for another sanctioning body - as long as ASA comes first!

Glen,

I don't know if Kati will be headed down your way. She rejoined her old team and they haven't played any AFA tourneys yet. I'll try to find out this weekend.

I was aware that a few guys from the Phoenix area were headed over to the advanced school. I haven't had a chance to talk to any of them yet to get a report, but I'm sure it will be pretty much the same as Gary's.

I've been talking up the discussion boards around here trying to get some more involvement. It's a great tool to discuss situations and learn from others.

Who did you run into, Gary?

Andy
