Traveling...Right Call?

Had this in my 7th grade game tonight, early in the third quarter

A1 gets the ball in his backcourt. He thinks he's still shooting at the basket they shot at in the first half. He shoots it, airballs, and runs over and catches his miss.

I called a travel, here's why.

Team A had team control. As we all know, team control ends when there is a try for goal. However, since this kid was shooting at the wrong basket, it really wasn't a try for goal. Therefore, team control still existed when he shot at the wrong basket. Travel.

Is my logic correct?
