Is it a camp you pay for or are invited to? Unless things have changed drastically, if you are paying for it they can call it what they want, but it is not a development camp for the A-10.

Is it the women's camp? I'm pretty sure A-10 men do invite-only camps. The A-10 women's side does do some identification camps.

I love this camp. The camp is very well run and the ball is not bad at all. It is a women's camp using NCAA-W mechanics. The A-10 and Patriot run an identification camp at VCU in April but that is full already. I've been to both, VCU and PSU, and I am going to both again this year. The evaluators are conference supervisors and staff members that have worked in the higher rounds of the NCAA tournament (sweet 16 and above) and higher rounds of the A-10 tournament. Most of the campers are college officials. The officials on staff but at the lower levels of the A-10 and Patriot are required to be at PSU as campers so you ref with some pretty good officials/people. Last year, the supervisors from 7 different conferences were there. Marie Koch, the A-10 supervisor, is big on referee education so the classroom sessions are given by supervisors, officials, and evaluators from around the country. The classroom sessions are geared toward college officiating but the open discussions in those sessions are fantastic. The staff is very friendly and approachable. If you want more info, let me know.

The camp at VCU is actually the "developmental camp". Both of her camps are great camps where you can learn alot. It is for the women's side only. Marie Koch has some great opportunities for learning. If you are interested in working on the womens side at any level you would learn alot from either of these camps. If you have no interest in working on the women's side they're probably not the camps for you...
Here's some info for this years VCU camp: I have attached an Application/Invitation to the April Atlantic 10 Developmental Camp to be held at Virginia Commonwealth University on April 16 - 18, 2010. Those of you who have attended in the past know that this camp has become very popular and is always full by the end of February at the latest. You may share this application with any fellow official who is dedicated to making personal improvements regardless of their current officiating level. We hope to again have Debbie Williamson and at least one Regional Advisor in attendance. Here is a little more detail from last yrs camp: THIS IS NOT A TRY OUT CAMP AND CANNOT BE USED IN LIEU OF THE PENN STATE CAMP TO BE HELD JULY 5 - 8, 2009. This camp is highly recommended for: 1. Any current Atlantic 10 Tier 3 and 4 official wishing to improve their current pool status or simply work on improving their skills 2. Any current Patriot League official seeking to improve 3. Any current Div II, III, or JuCo official wishing to gain additional knowledge, skill, and exposure to Div I 4. Any current high school official wishing to gain possible access to move to the college ranks 5. Any official at any level who wishes to seek evaluation, skill critiques, rule and mechanics classroom sessions, and renew and establish friendships. The info for this year Penn St. camp I haven't seen yet, but here's some info from last years camp: Attached you will find the application for the Atlantic 10 Conference and Patriot League Camp. This year only two options exist: 1. Try Out only - July 5, 2009 2. Developmental - Identification - Try Out - July 5 - 8, 2009 The attached applications clearly explains the two options. The Try Out is limited to current staff of both leagues and officials currently working Div I in at least 3 Div I leagues. There are some new initiatives for the Developmental Camp which are also explained in the application. This camp combines Development, Identification for new officials, and a Try Out component all in the one camp. You can pm me if you want more details |
