I have a philosophical problem with "mercy rules".
Mercy is a virtue that can be exhibited voluntarily by the players and coaches. The best way to keep the clock running is for the team in the lead to run a motion or active 4 corners type offense with out attempting to score. Having a rule making body impose "mercy" by "rule" is an inappropriate intrusion by the governing authority. ![]() jmo |

OK, How about "Enforced point spread reduction folly".
![]() My real issue is the appearance that more and more people are willing to accept rules or laws to mandate "outcomes" in life as well as sport. |

Outcome in question?
I think in these cases the outcome has been decided and the "Mercy Rule" is in place to get us out of there before something worse than a 40 point drubbing happens.
