I always tell the coaches they have to enter the players into the book in descending order by height.

Love It ...

I absolutely love it when the numbers are in numerical order. It makes it real easy to check for identical numbers, and even makes it seem easier to check for illegal numbers.

I used to keep the book for our high school games when I was still in high school, and I hated it when someone had already entered the players not in numerical order. Took forever to find the number corresponding to the foul.

Interesting!

As a current scorekeeper (5'th Year BV & 4'th Year GV) I always set the books up in numerical order. Setting it up out of order sets you up for a headache in trying to locate players when they score or are called for a foul-especially when you work multiple games!

Wghen I'm handed a book or roster in order other than numeric, I cringe. I'm with you; numeric order makes it a lot easier to find players when it comes to recording information.

I cannot recall any rule set that requires this (NCAA and NFHS I can say with certainty do not).

Heck, one local middle school coach won't even put last names in his score book.

So what? You do everything by number anyway. Why do you care if the kids even have names?

Because the rules do actually require names.
