No worries. Sometimes I wonder if it's just schools in my area. I'm in the suburbs of Chicago and high schools are much larger than they might be in southern Illinois.

I was referring to what they do in Utah, which is actually have FOUR levels of play: Fr, Soph, JV, and Varsity. They don't just call the game before the Varsity contest the Sophomore game, they actually have both a Sophomore game AND a JV game.

Many places around here do that as well. I know for a fact that the conference my alma mater belongs to does, and I've got a JV game scheduled outside that conference as well.

That is how it is done in a lot of places here. In addition, many high schools also have multiple freshman teams.

Pretty much the same here. Soph game precedes Varsity while usually a frosh a/b doubleheader is played in another gym. JV games are typically Saturday mornings or off days.

Learn something new here every day......
Never heard of multiple-teams at one school for one age group/class. Now I'm hearing about b and c squads! Wow!
I ref in two-counties. One county has large - sometimes 15 players/team MS (7th and 8th grade) teams and then one F, JV, and V team/school. The other county has no MS and just one F, JV, and V team/school and larger Wreck Ball leagues (to make up the difference I suppose). I always feel bad for those large squad coaches as they try to get each player some playing time - in six and seven minute quarters.....and oh yeah, win the game too! ![]()

It's definitely a numbers thing. The school I grew up going to had 3 teams in 7th and 8th, two Freshman Teams, and then a soph, JV, Var. Now they have Three freshman teams
![]() But I now I officiate some schools that have a JV and Var team only. -Josh |

I agree, it is a numbers thing. The Houston metro is very populated. Where I grew up in California, it was not as populated and we only had three teams for each gender, Frosh, JV and Varsity.
There is no shortage of games to work here, that is for sure. ![]()
