First Police Escort
Lots of firsts for me this season...
Championship game of a GS holiday tournament. I thought I was going to be there all day. Both teams were in the bonus by the end of the first quarter. My partner made a couple of phantom calls, but also helped me out when I didn't have a great angle. Most intense crowd I've had yet, and they sure did voice their opinion. Game went to OT, and during the OT, one particular guy who had been talking all game long decided to tell my partner that we were f***ing horse**** referees. Now, I thought we called a pretty darn good, consistent game. Tight, but consistent. This guy didn't agree. My partner took it upon himself to see the guy out of the gym. He left without a problem. Had a police officer escort us to the locker room and to my car. Other than that it was fun. |

What a lovely holiday experience for you. Those people were such wonderful examples for this time of the year. Continue spreading the holiday cheer. :D |

Oh, that's right, some states have Freshman, Sophomore, and JV games as well as the Varsity contest.
My mistake, sorry. |

Learn something new here every day......
Never heard of multiple-teams at one school for one age group/class. Now I'm hearing about b and c squads! Wow!
I ref in two-counties. One county has large - sometimes 15 players/team MS (7th and 8th grade) teams and then one F, JV, and V team/school. The other county has no MS and just one F, JV, and V team/school and larger Wreck Ball leagues (to make up the difference I suppose). I always feel bad for those large squad coaches as they try to get each player some playing time - in six and seven minute quarters.....and oh yeah, win the game too! ;) |

Around here, there are no sophomore teams. Varsity, JV, and Freshman. |

It's definitely a numbers thing. The school I grew up going to had 3 teams in 7th and 8th, two Freshman Teams, and then a soph, JV, Var. Now they have Three freshman teams
But I now I officiate some schools that have a JV and Var team only. -Josh |
