Double Lane Violation

New one for me tonight. Free throw shooter A1 steps over the line on the first of 2 free throws. I whistle as soon as I see his foot go over the line. Of course he makes it, so it doesn't count anyway. My partner comes up to me and says I have a lane violation on B1 too! He didn't blow his whistle. I told him my violation was first and we ignore the other one. ( Actually guessed, don't know for sure) He told me later his player was standing on the block the whole time. Was this right? Thanks for the help.

Sounds to me that B1 violated first by being outside his designated spot. Did your partner stick his arm out for a delayed lane violation especially since he said he was on the block the whole time? If he did, this would of made the call a lot easier as far as timing goes.

No arm out, he simply walked up and told me.

Well if A1 did violate fist like you said, you would be right. Ball becomes dead as soon as team A violates. If my partner comes up to me and says he had B1 violating too because he was on the block the whole time, then we're going to the alternating possession arrow for the double lane violation.

Your guess was wrong, but the result works out to be exactly the same as the right answer.

From NFHS 9-1 Penalties... Start with 4b, which will lead you back to 3.

"3. If there is a simultaneous violation by each team, the ball becomes dead and no point can be scored. Remaining free throws are administered or play is resumed by the team entitled to the alternating-possession throwin from the designated out-of-bounds spot nearest to where the simultaneous violation occurred.
4. If there is a violation first by the free-thrower's opponent followed by the free thrower or a teammate:
b. If the second violation is by the free thrower or a teammate behind the free-throw line extended and the three-point line, both violations are penalized, as in penalty item (3)."

Your guess wasn't right.

The correct call is a double violation and resume with either the next FT or the AP arrow.

9-1 Penalty Section #4b directing the reader to #3.

When there is a double posting, the first one to post wins.

You're right. I failed to see it was on the first of two free throws.
