Lots to consider here...
Here in South Jersey, in a 3 man game, we are giving L first crack at the block/charge in the paint. The pass/crash is a different animal as noted above. For our HS games, if I am T, I am trying very hard to look somewhere else on b/c in the paint (or in the Leads PCA if I am T). If I am C, I am trying to make sure I give L first crack and if I hear nothing, I'm coming in for it if I think I need to (on my side of the lane).
There is much discussion about letting partners live and die with calls or coming in to get them, but I'm not sure I've decided which way to go yet- I am leaning towards the former at this point, since I am still early in my career and don't want to be reaching from the T- especially since it has been drilled into my head not to reach from the T into the paint... I suppose I'll see how things go in my first few 3 whistle games and keep talking to my partners and observers about it. Regarding the theory about observers/assignors/others of influence in the stands and not making a call with bodies on the floor bringing us all down, it seems to me that if I am taught correctly, I am not reaching in from the T to grab anything in the paint, because that's not my PCA and it just looks awful if I do. If I get some stuff from somebody not on the floor about me not grabbing a b/c in the paint from the T, I am not gonna be happy about it. Of course, if it's my assignor, I will listen and adjust, even though I've been taught differently. Bottm line to me is, that there is a lot of uncertainty on 2 points 1- taking b/c outside your PCA and 2- do we do it because there are bodies on the floor and no whistle or do we stay in our PCA and let the partner live and die with call/no call.... I guess that's why the assignors and supervisors are paid the big bucks- to work this stuff out. Brings me to another point, but I'll try a new thread so I don't hijack.... Z |

Reminds Me Of Lake Chaubunagungamaug ...
Lake Chaubunagungamaug is a lake in the town of Webster, Massachusetts. The name comes from Nipmuc, an Algonquian language, and is believed to mean, "You fish on your side, I fish on my side, and nobody fish in the middle".
