The "point of interruption" has been in the rulebook as long as I've officiated. It's always been a part of the correctable error rule. However, it was introduced as a formal definition and used for double fouls prior to the '05-'06 season. So the double foul rule changed 3 years ago.

POI is rarely the arrow. (ie: double T after a held ball).

You would also go to the arrow as the POI after a double foul during rebounding action before team control is re-established or after a double foul when there is no team control after a throw-in has ended.
