That's what I've always done, but I wonder if it could help in the above situation. But, that just opens up a whole different set of issues, so I agree that just sharing it with your partners is the best bet.

It is the coach's responsibility to know the rules. You are interjecting yourself into the strategy of the game to advise both coaches.

If someone wanted my name and number, I'll pull up one of my buddies off the cell phone, especially any of those brutes who play in the upper level of slow-pitch softball. They don't like it when someone gets personal about their behavior.
