After the game, my partner said how much he enjoyed the whole exchange. His favorite part was my two-fingered T signal. He got a kick out of that, for some reason.

So to answer your original question, good T.
You are more tolerant than I am.

I really mean it when I say something like "That's enough."

That's possible. I'm pretty comfortable with my tolerance level. I give a few T's a season, but I'm not generally looking for them.

I feel like I just got slapped on the wrist or something. For me, "that's enough" does not equal "one more word and it's a T". It's basically a less-than-subtle message to back off. I would rather give the coach a chance to back off than give the T. If he/she decides not to back down, then it'll be clear why they get the T.

I hope none of us are looking for them.

I guess for me "That's enough" means just that - enough. Not "That is almost enough, go ahead and repeat yourself one more time but no more!".

I mean, I just GAVE him the chance to back off, didn't I? By saying "Thats enough" rather than just banging him?

I am sure there is more than one "right" answer here, so I don't want to suggest that I am certainly right - but I guess I just don't understand the idea that my job is to try to convince a coach to NOT get himself the T, and provide him more than one opportunity to go back to coaching. I wonder if we don't just encourage the same behavior since they tend to know we don't REALLY mean it when we say "That's enough".

I am relatively new to this (just a few years experience at the JV level), so perhaps as I do this more I will become more tolerant?

No, you'll just find more coaches understand what "enough" means. Or you'll find the right thing to say between "that's enough" and whacking him that really does shut him up. Sometimes people do go to the "that's enough" card a bit too quickly, not saying you or anyone else in this thread does.
