untucking jersey

A1 fouls out of the game. He and the coach are notified and as he's walking to the bench he untucks his shirt exposing his stomach. The untucking of the shirt was deliberate, but a by-product was the stomach view. After the game there is some discussion with my partner weather this should have been a technical foul or not. Is say not, however 10-4-1h would probably give you grounds to give the technical. I'm convinced the intent was not to draw attention to himself, but more about disappointment for fouling out. We called nothing.

Automatic Technical here in Iowa. I don't know if that's a rules adaptation or NFHS, I'll have to look into that

For just untucking it, as opposed to removing it?

Yep, it was mentioned specifically in the rules meeting this year (but as I said, I don't remember if that's just a state interpretation or NFHS).

I believe in parts of the middle east, the stomach view, becomes a death penalty by their rules and bylaws.

So is that the death penalty followed by ball at mid-court? Or death penalty followed by POI?

No, you go to the arrow - through the head.

Me either...seems pretty tame to me. Now if he pulls it up over his head, we've got a different story.

I've T'd up a JV player this yr for "ripping" his shirt out of his pants to demonstrate his displeasure over a foul call and calling attention to himself. But, I have also let plays such as this one slide......each based on its own circumstance. This seems pretty tame.

They throw shoes at you, so instead of getting stoned to death, you get shoed to death.

It's actually an over-officius interpretation from both state associations, which some officials have become over-officius in their applications of it. Situation happened in a game last year where B1 was walking off the court at halftime, and was just a couple of feet from the door to the locker room hallway when the official spotted him pulling out the shirt (just as a comfort thing to be "loose" for the halftime chalktalk) and T'd him up for it.
