I have been reading this thread with great interest. I have officiated boys'/girls' Jr. H.S. and H.S. basketball in Ohio, Michigan, California (H.S. only), and Florida (H.S. only). The only problem I ever had was in the Miami-Dade County, Florida, during the mid-1970's.
The AD's in Dade County expected you to come to the games dressed; and the schools did not even provide a place for the officials who came to the game already dressed to have a pre-game conference. Furthermore, they expected you to sit in the stands at half-time. I didn't know this when I arrived at my first ever H.S. game in Florida; the Home AD let me know that he was not happy that he had to find a secure place for me to dress and keep my belongings. He told me that if I was scheduled again at his school, I had better be dressed to go (me: ROFLMAO, ![]() There is absolutely no reason for a school not to provide a secure place for an officials' dressing room. There is no way I would dress in rest room. Of course we do not have that problem in Ohio and Michigan, except for Rita's particular problem. MTD, Sr.

We actually have some guys who come dressed at the subvarsity level. Makes it hard for us to justify needing a space before the game for dressing and pregaming. UGH!
I think there's a post on the softball board about a portable locker room. Go and be amused. |

You're not the only one. This could be a great practical joke waiting to happen at the softball complexes I work at, knowing the jokers I work with.

I agree Rita, its hard for females to find an area. I learned very early on to just come dressed. I only change my shoes and throw on my whistle. The problem I come across and you mentioned it as well is "pre-game". The guys tend to do some pregaming while changing and since Im not in there with them, we dont always get to do one. I wish there were more coaches areas that had a small area with bathroom so we can change privately and pregame when ready!
Sometimes I wait for the guys outside when they are in the mens locker room but most officials dont want to come out until they have to,lol!! Good luck with any solutions you come up with! ~~~ |

I have read the thread on both the baseball and softball forums and the real funny thing is that Honig's is selling this thing. It is on its website and in its Spring catalog. MTD, Sr.
