Bad Things Come in Threes

Bad Things

(1) Working a varsity doubleheader last night which had been moved from earlier in the week due to snow earlier in the week.

(2) Midway through the second quarter of the boys game, home player drives toward the baseline and plants his left leg. I'm L, closed down on the opposite side of the court from him, and I see his leg plant, and his knee goes out at a 90 degree angle to his leg. Kid falls to the floor. Doctor in the crowd comes down, EMS is called, and we have a 30 minute delay in the game. From what I hear, the kid dislocated his knee, which of course, tore several ligaments in the process.

(3) In the third quarter, player throws a rocket of a pass to no one, which hits a large gatorade cooler, spilling its contents everywhere. Luckily, very little got on the court, but geez, I thought the game would never end.

The girls game went well, as did the boys game minus the two things mentioned. Got the chance to work with two excellent partners, and so I won't complain too much. But have you ever had a day where it just felt like everything that could happen did happen? Yesterday was one of those days.

Why is item (1) a bad thing?

I don't think it is, so it seems that you better watch you back today!

We'll hope the kid's knee heals properly.

With regard to Item (2), did the player hold onto the ball as he fell to the floor?

He lost control of the ball, and it went OOB before he ever touched the floor.
