Inquiring Minds Want To Know ???

I seldom watch NBA games on television, but I will occasionally watch for a few minutes, and I have the same two questions. What are the rules regarding team baskets, and benches in the NBA? Why are the benches so far away from the table, the benchwarmers are often seated below the plane of the endline?

Home team chooses.

Longer tables.

Why don't we get to stretch???

On a more serious note, I do not like the fact that we are expected to act like coaches in pre-game (standing basically still and watching one of the teams warm-up for 15 - 20 minutes) after stretching BEFORE we get out on the court. We are then expected to be able to run with the players (who have been warming up and getting loose while we STAND for 15 - 20 minutes) as soon as the ball is tossed.

I do sneak in a stretch or two in pre-game, but would like to be able to continue to get loose while watching the teams warm-up. I cannot recall ever seeing a basketball official warming up and continuing to stretch while teams warm-up. On the other hand, I have talked to many a partner who have "tweaked something" just after the opening tip.

Is that a men's room reference?

It's hard to come out of the gate. It's one of the biggest gripes I have about having to stand there for 20 minutes, especially after a long drive. In my fantasy world, I'd spend that time on a treadmill or an elliptical machine getting loose.

The first two minutes of my games is the injury zone. I just move as slow as I can get away with till I feel loose again. Rarely pull anything after that but have felt, hammie and calf twinges, in that time period on a fairly consistent basis.

I'm considering the run along the sideline deal no matter who doesn't like it...

Thumbs up

Thats why I like NCAA Womens mechanics. On the court at "15:00", off the court at "10:00", back out at "3:00" without coats. Come out more ready to go. Usually I will go to trainers room and use bike or treadmill.

Please don't.

(I don't know what's wrong with me. I woke up this morning, powered up my computer, started posting on my favorite non-porn website, and found myself posting in mbyron (note my title above). I actually have had to look several words in a dictionary to check for spelling, and to see if I actually knew the correct meaning of the word, before posting. I swear that I'm not doing this on purpose. This reminds me of Charles Dickens', "A Christmas Carol", that I read back in seventh grade. Did three ghosts, mbyron Past, mbyron Present, and mbyron Future, come and visit me in a dream last night? Help. I can't stop. Help.)

I'm reading Rule 4-Definitions from the NBA Rulebook and it says visiting team has the choice.

Section I—Basket/Backboard
a. A team’s basket consists of the basket ring and net through which its players try to shoot the ball. The visiting team has the choice of baskets for the first half. The basket selected by the visiting team when it first enters onto the court shall be its basket for the first half.

But home chooses the benches. Therefore, some games the teams will go towards their benches the first half, and some games they'll go away.

I had a college game earlier in the season with a guy who works a ton of D1 and was injured last year. He told me he has basically decided he isn't going to run hard until he is warmed up good.

For me, warming up by running is just as if not more important than stretching. I will not stretch before I run so I'm looking for a hallway or somewhere to run. I'm not against an official stretching or running on the sideline because it is an athletic even. I don't normally do it because I'm almost sweating by the time I warm up good.
