Of course, if it's a girl's game, I skip the part about the cups.
What do you do about nipple rings then?

let's say the coach is a big talker..." three seconds, that was a foul"..etc.. would you consider approaching him during warm ups. Say "in past games coach you have been vocal about everything on the floor, it is hard for me to concentrate on all of the action because of this" then asking him the allow you to officiate the game with less talk?
I wouldn't allow the coach to make such comments during the game. The first time I would warn him that he is not allowed to try to officiate. The second time, he gets a T.

If there is an issue later in the game, I'll deal with it then. But, that's just me and I'm not as experienced as some on this Forum either.
I agree with grunewar.

Keep it simple

(Smile as I go to coach)
Hi coach,
Good to meet you
Legally equipped?
Good luck/play well tonight.
(Get outta Dodge)

If he asks a question, he gets a one sentence answer
When he starts complaining, or trying to buy something... hand up,"coach, thanks, but I'm not interested in this conversation. Good luck."

"Buy something?" What could he possibly be buying?

Wait, never mind. I forgot that Padgett sells foul insurance at his games.

Here is how the pre-game meeting with the coaches should go:

With about 1:30 left before game time, the officiating crew should stride over the the Visitor's Bench and each official introducing himself and wish him and his team good luck with the R going last. This procedure is then repeated at the Home Bench.

It's done differently here by state direction. We meet both HCs at the table right after the captains meeting (wich starts at 3:00 before game time). Everyone introduces himself (or herself) and the R then conducts the quick meeting.

Snaqs:

The last thing I want is the HC'es at the Captains' Meeting. I do not want them hearing me tell the Captains the facts of life: That the Captains are in charge of everybody even their coaches.

Sorry, the meetings are separate.

Captains meet with us in the center circle. When that's over, the U1 and U2 fetch the coaches and join the R by the table.

We have the Captains meeting, in the circle, at 12:00 and separate coaches meetings starting, at their individual benches, starting at about 2:30.

Why would you open yourself up to stupid and/or potentially harmful questions from a coach before the game?

My pre-game to coaches is the same no matter how many times I've worked their game:

"Coach, let's make sure your players are equipped legally. Good luck and let's all try and have some fun."

I apologize, my eyesight isn't as good as it use to be, . I thought you had all of them in one meeting. So, you do it like we do, more or less.

Happy New Year!

Except we bring the coaches with us to the R at the same time.
