Intentional, Personal, or Common?

These situations were brought up and I wanted to bring them to the boards to get the right answers:

1. Situation: 30 seconds left in game, score tied, the ball is at the disposal of A1 for a throw-in, A2 sets an illegal screen on B2, official calls a foul on A2.

What type of foul do we have?

2. Situation: 30 seconds left in game, Team A up 1 point, the ball is at the disposal of A1 for a throw-in, A2 sets a legal screen but B2 does not react in time and crashes into A2 knocking him to the floor, official calls a foul on B2.

What type of foul do we have?
-----
My understanding of the rules (4-19, 6-1) leads me to believe Common foul in both Situations. What is the correct ruling?

You are correct. Both are common fouls.

Common fouls. The ball becomes live when it is at the disposal of the thrower.

And in HS, situation 1 is NOT a team control foul, so you would shoot free throws if in the bonus.

I wanted to get confirmation because the official who asked me the question (my partner last night) said he was watching his son's game and Scenario 1 occured and the officials working the game called a common foul. A well respected official who was there evaluating the game officials told them after the game that it should have been an intentional foul. The offical who asked me the question also thought it should have been intentional but wanted my opinion. I told him based on my understanding of the ball being "live" and the contact was not an attempt to neutralize an advantage or stop the clock from starting the officials made the right call. I told him however I would check the rules and see if any cases existed. When I didn't find a case I figured I would ask the boards to be sure.

Thanks guys!

I'd like to know their basis for saying it should have been intentional.

They thought it was a dead ball foul.

In 2 I might not have any foul at all. See the rules on screening and incidental contact.

Why couldn't it be Intentional? I've seen some screening action called Intentional before - the screener went for the head with a forearm, etc...I would hope that the evaluator wasn't talking about the dead ball scenario , but screening action certainly could be Intentional.

That's why I was asking.

It might have been intentional, depending on what happened. It would have been an Intentional Personal foul, not an Intentional Technical foul. OR, as you suggest, it could have been (most likely would have been) a Common Personal foul.

The title of your post makes it seem as though you think there are three choices -- there are only two.
