Yup. But isn't that usually when it's done? Not much reason to intentionally foul Shaq in the middle of the 2nd quarter.

Then why did San Antonio do it in the THIRD quarter?

Wow. I don't know! Why would you start that strategy so early? Doesn't make much sense at all to me.

Because when Shaq gets the ball in the post, fouling him is a pretty good way to negate an advantage. If Nash is ready to penetrate, fouling Shaq is a good way to stop a fast break.

I can see how this strategy could work early, taking away a few possessions by putting the grand mason himself on the line.
