As one who lives about 2 hours from Friends University of Central Kansas, I don't find this funny.

Interesting that the Men's bracket had two teams with first round bye's, and they were both in the West Region. Only one team had a bye on the Women's side...Scrapper, do you know why? Also, once again one of our Northwest Conference women's teams is in the round of 16. This time it's George Fox University from Newberg, OR. On the Men's side, it's Whitworth out of Spokane, WA.

The men actually have 5 bye teams. This year they were Hope, Whitworth, Amherst, Plattsburgh State, and UMASS - Dartmouth. Here's a brief explanation from D3hoops.com :

Quote:
Who goes to the tournament?

For the men: Fifty-nine teams go to the 2008 tournament — 38 conference champions, 17 runners-up from those conferences (Pool C) and 4 teams who are not in those 37 conferences (Pool B).

For the women: Sixty-three teams go to the tournament — 39 conference champions, 21 runners-up from those conferences (Pool C) and three teams who are not in those 39 conferences (Pool B). (This is official for 2008.) More women's teams go to the tournament because there are more women's basketball programs in Division III.
BTW, Coast Guard (from a small 7-team conference) beat a bye team, #10-ranked UMASS-Dartmouth, in the second round in Dartmouth. Coast Guard is on a pretty unbelievable roll. They're on a 12-game winning streak. They picked the right time to get hot. They have #13-ranked Rochester next.

Well that makes sense then...and I saw that the Coasties made the Round of 16. Good for them. That's pretty close to you, isn't it?

Sweet 16 games tonight in D3. Amherst won a close game to advance. Coast Guard with another huge upset, as they beat #13-ranked Rochester pretty easily. Wheaton also advances, by beating Whitworth. Wheaton's Kent Raymond scored 47 points!

This has been a really fun tournament to follow. I've been able to listen to the ends of all 3 of those games online through D3hoops.com.

We're down to the Final Four. #1-ranked Hope will play #11-ranked Washington; and #3 Amherst will play #16 Ursinus. Ursinus finally ended Coast Guard's great run, but they needed overtime to do it. Washington and Amherst both made the trip to Salem last year as well, with Amherst winning the whole thing.

It would really have been good if Uranus had ended the Coast Guard's runs.
