Intentional foul while in the bonus

I know when this is answered it will seem obvious, but I'm having one of those moments right now.

Team A is in the bonus (1 or 2) and an intentional foul is called on a Team B player (not player or team control). Team A only shoots the two shots for the intentional foul .. right; or do they shoot the two for the intentional and then shoot whatever they would be entitled to for the bonus (so a total of 3 or four shots).

Does the same apply for an intentional foul called on B1 as A1 is in the act of shooting? Only shoot the two for the intentional and none for the shooting foul? Or does Team A also shoot the two (or three) shots for the missed shot. If the basket is made after the intentional foul during the act of shooting does Team A only shoot the two for the intentional foul or and one additional for the "and one."

An intentional foul is always two shots with one exception: a missed 3 point attempt receives 3 shots. All other situations receive 2 shots, and two shots only.

You're overthinking it.

Just penalize the foul that occurred. An intentional foul is 2 shots plus ball at the spot of the foul. An exception is that it's 3 foul shots plus ball at the spot of the foul if it occurs on a missed 3-pointer.

As is so often the case, the definitions are useful:

NFHS 4-8-1 - "A bonus free throw is the second free throw awarded for a common foul"

NFHS 4-19-2 - "A common foul is a personal foul which is neither flagrant nor intentional nor committed against a player trying or tapping for a field goal nor a part of a double, simultaneous or multiple foul."

An intentional foul is not a common foul, and it has it's own penalty. That penalty does not in any way include bonus free throws.

The best place to do a quick check on all penalties is the summary at the very end of rule 10-6.

Excellent post. Excellent explanation.

Consider this

A slight twist of the OP:
Let's say during the first bonus shot the ball makes contact on the iron, then B1 aggressively pushes for the oisition on the rebound. B1 is assessed an intentional foul, as the shot drops. What happens next?

If it's double bonus, you clear the lane, let A1 shoot his second shot, then penalize the intentional on B1. If it's not double bonus, you just go to the intentional.

Oh. I took it to mean it might be a one shot foul (after a made basket). Of course if it's a one and one, you still shoot the second shot.

I guess I'm just too tired tonight.
