AP screw-up

OK, so I was doing a kids game the other day.

It was my 6th game of the day (did a couple of JV games earlier), it was late at night, my mind was so unfocused.

Called a jump ball, wrong team inbounded, goes down the court, goes up for a shot, gets fouled and scores. That's when I realize what I did.

So what should you do in that situation? What does the book say should happen?

Play on. It's too late once the throwin is completed.

Disallow the basket. Report the foul. If you can remember what the exact time was prior to the throw-in, have the timekeeper to put that time back on the clock. Apologize to the coaches, players and fans, and then readminister the throw-in to the correct team. Last but not least, take less games, if 6 games is clouding your judgement.

You're kidding, right? Tell me you're kidding.
At first I wasn't sure, but the part in red makes me think you're probably kidding.

6 is nothing. Usually it's alright, I'm just in the middle of assignment/midterm season at school. My usual schedule is anywhere between 10-15 games on a weekend.

We didn't reverse anything, but my partner (the R's) decision was to give the team that mistakenly received the ball, the arrow for the next AP situation, which i disagreed with.

As for apologizing, I'll apologize to the coaches, but that's as far as it goes, I won't address the fans under good circumstances, I sure as hell won't talk to them over this. And come on, would you ever really do a redo? That's just asinine.

Definitely the wrong move by your partner.

Yep, the book says to never knowingly give the AP to the same team twice.

However, that is what you would have done has you "not reversed anything." The arrow would still have favored the team that should have had the last one.

Apologize and tell the offended coach that he, or she, "will get two of the next three alternating possessions."
