It appears that I misunderstood earlier. The announcers are now saying that the pregame dunk occurred at 6:30PM for a scheduled 7PM tip-off. That's an 1/2 hour before the start, not just over six minutes as I wrote in the original post. That's also right at the limit of the jurisdiction of the officials in an NCAA mens game.
They showed the clip of the dunk by the big guy, Gransberry, from USF. More or less a baby dunk, not a huge display that shook the Earth, but still a dunk.
