D1 Pregame Dunk T

Rutgers @ USF Big East Conference game

The home team was charged with a T for a pregame dunk with just over six minutes left in warmups! I have seen this in plenty of HS games, but never at the D1 level.

The game is being shown on ESPN2.

It appears that I misunderstood earlier. The announcers are now saying that the pregame dunk occurred at 6:30PM for a scheduled 7PM tip-off. That's an 1/2 hour before the start, not just over six minutes as I wrote in the original post. That's also right at the limit of the jurisdiction of the officials in an NCAA mens game.

They showed the clip of the dunk by the big guy, Gransberry, from USF.
More or less a baby dunk, not a huge display that shook the Earth, but still a dunk.

Sorry for the confusion: were they or were they not assessed a T? Was it just under 30 minutes?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't officials jurisdiction begin at 30 mins before tip off?

It technically does. There is to be one official on the floor at that time on the Men's side. I am not sure how often that actually happens, but that is what the book says.

Peace

Yes, USF was assessed a technical foul.

Yes, it does. I already noted that 30 minutes prior to tip-off is right at the limit of the jurisdiction.

I've seen it, once, in a game where I was keeping the book. It was, however, closer to about 12 minutes before the game.

(Of course, we'll now have 3 in my game on Saturday night.)
