Disqualified player question

If the coach fails to have a substitute ready with in the 20 seconds allowed, what's the penalty?

What you do in this situation? Talk to the coach? penalize him?

I have never had it happen, but it could.

The sub has to be at the table when the 20 seconds is up. If not, it's a direct technical foul charged to the head coach. Rule 10-5-3&PENALTY and casebook play 10.5.3SitB.

Whether it's called by the book or not depends on the individual official.

On another note, if you "T'" the coach and he or she still refuses to put someone in the game, you can end the game. Any act which makes a travesty of the game may result in forefeiture (5-4-1)

I presume this sub must be submitted prior to shooting the free throws for the T.

I'd be interested in hearing how an individual official might make this decision. When to give the T, when not?

Just to play devils advocate, if the exchange of words was directed at an official, only heard by that official or if everyone heard it may determine the outcome of the situation......just my 2 cents....

Before the 20 seconds is up, the coach points to a sub and tells him / her to report. The sub walks halfway to the table, then stops to remove his / her warm-ups as the horn sounds. T? (Me: Probably not).

The coach spends 19 seconds staring at the official and shaking his/her (the coach's) head. Just prior to the final horn sounding, the coach points to a sub. The sub is off the bench but not at the table. T? (Me: 50-50)

Agree. Definitely some latitude allowed. If my leg is wet from him peeing on it all game then a T when the horn blows.

A senior official I know told this story once. A1 had just committed his fifth foul. The coach, timer and player had all been notified. The coach, however, did not go to the bench, choosing to stand and look at the ref. After a few seconds, the he asked the coach, "Coach, do you have a sub?"

The coach answer angrily, "I have 30 seconds!"

The ref simply said, "Don't take 31."
