FIBA RULES Question

No need for posts about FIBA rules. I have heard them all and have no choice since almost every part of Canada has now adopted the ruleset.

My question is about the ball passing over the backboard, Is this allowed in FIBA rules?

From what I have read so far it is not specifically covered. Rule 5 Art 23.1.2 covers when the ball is OOB and only says when it touches the supports, the back of the board or any object above the court. Plus all the other obvious OOB situations.

Thanks for all serious replies and even the ones that make fun.

Edit: Sorry I started a new thread about this subject rather than Hi Jack the previous post about the ball passing over the Backboard regarding NFHS rules.

SmokeEater you are correct, passing the ball over the backboard is not a violation in FIBA.

How about shooting the ball over the backboard? Or the ball passing over the rect. backboard?

Some years ago, when the spot throw in from the baseline was reintroduced, it was illegal to pass from a throw in over the backboard. This rule has been cancelled at the next following rule revision, IIRC. Now there is no situation when "over the backboard" is a violation.

And, no, there is no "over the back" foul in FIBA.

Ciao

Need a Reference Now!

Thanks for the help on my last Question everyone.

I am trying to wrap my head around the differences between FIBA and NCAA so I keep coming up with questions.

I believe that a throw in from the front court is not allowed to be passed in to the back court. Correct me if I am wrong. I can't find a reference in the rule book for this. Can someone direct me to it, Please?

Do they have throw-ins from the front court in FIBA? In NCAA and FED, all throw-ins are from out-of-bounds.

The rule reference is 30.1.2 which deals with backcourt violations; it says it applies to throw-ins.

However, when the ball is inbounded at centre such as the begining of a period or after a technical/unsportsmanlike foul; the inbounder may throw-in the ball anywhere on the court. (Rule 17.2.3)
