Sox and Indians played a gem last night. If you're a fan of an old-fashioned pitching duel, you should've been watching. Dice-K continues a run of great outings by Sox starters, going 7 innings without giving up a run. Okajima pitched the 8th and Papelbon got the save. Exactly according to the script. Beckett, Gabbard, Wakefield and John Lester (in his first start since his cancer diagnosis!!) all pitched great in their most recent starts.

Yankees beat up on the Devil Rays pretty good last week. All I can say about that is that I'm glad we still have 15 games to play against Tampa!

While I was having good feelings about the Sox, I went to check the standings, and happened to notice that there are a few teams in each league that haven't played each other yet. For example, the Angels and Blue Jays haven't played against each other yet. It's the last week of July! I guess that's what an unbalanced schedule will do.

Rangers/Royals haven't matched up; Detroit hasn't played the Yankees or the A's. In the National League, Braves/D'Backs haven't played; and the Marlins haven't played Colorado or the Giants. The Giants are still waiting to play the Nats.

Wierd.

Unfortunately, the Sox were on the wrong end of the 1-0 score last night. Oritz popped weakly to third to end the game. Papi's average in the 8th and 9th innings with a chance to tie or take the lead was like .340 last year. This year, it's only .180 with no homers and no RBIs.

Gotta hand it to the Cleveland starter, tho. Fausto Carmona is the guy that the Sox torched twice in 3 nights last year when he was the closer: http://forum.officiating.com/showpos...&postcount=482

I'm glad he bounced back after that and that he's having a good year (13-4), but the Sox could've used that game last night.

Did you happen to catch Bob Costas' show? The one with Schilling and Mr. PotatoHead's connection on it?

The disclaimers are flying from Bonds and Sheffield now. Kinda interesting that neither one has threatened to sue anybody for all those terrible lies.

Let's see....in the world of sports today, we have:
- Mr. PotatoHead's drive for the homerun record, accompanied by all the 'roid commentary.
- Vick's problems in football. PETA is looking to lynch him.
- Donaghy and the NBA.
- the Tour de France, where every day the leader seems to get sent home for something affiliated with drugs.
- and so on.....

This is the slow time of the year, sports wise. Only 1 major sport going, and all but the die hard baseball fans are already tired of that.

I haven't heard of any issues within the Canadian Football League.

Now I know that the CFL games do have US viewership. Maybe you get the CFL sports reports too.

I do have to admit that CFL games are more fun to watch than NFL games, with the big field and everybody running around.

I have the same thoughts on the NFL field as I do on the NBA court. I honestly think that today's players have outgrown both, and both sports would be wise to enlarge their playing areas. And you can add the older small hockey arenas to that too.

I don't want to be the cause of too many threads going off-topic (this one is enough, probably). So let me just say here, in reference to the cell phone number crack by Dan in the FBI thread. . .

Shut up!

You mean besides playing a guy who was dumped from the NFL for a whole season due to his pot use?

Everybody deserves a second chance.

Then the dumb guy went 'n messed up again, IIRC.

Also, IIRC, he didn't meet Mary Jane north of the border.
