There's quite a few people back there who are without boats. I saw pictures of some towns in my old stompin' grounds, and it makes one appreciate living in a desert.

Did you read this part?:

"The much-maligned muskie (the Big Bad Wolf to your Little Red Riding Hood of the fish world), is the biggest, baddest, most reclusive and elusive freshwater fish there is.

You know how the dog days of summer are just about over? They last all season for muskies, who prowl shoreline shallows picking off small dogs, ducks and other critters that stray too close to the water. If you’ve ever watched a baby duckling that lags too far behind its mother and disappear without as much as a peep or a splash, you know what I’m talking about. They’ll also grab a merganser, munch a mallard, and chomp a red-winged blackbird off a cattail a couple of feet above the water.

Part of Wisconsin’s charm and culture is cultivating these horror stories (Esox fables?) about big muskies snapping poodles out of boats while they’re leaning over, admiring their reflection in the water. Some time ago, a guy in Hayward allegedly caught a big muskie when he dangled his foot in the water over the side of his boat, and got bit. If you ask me, he was asking for it. And so was that little dog, too."

Go ahead - dangle that twinkie over the side of the boat. I dare 'ya.

Exclamation

Here's just another unrelated story. I was at a twi-night doubleheader at Comiskey Park when I was a kid to see the Tigers play the White Sox. Although he also played for the Sox later, at this time Norm Cash was the Tiger's first baseman. One of the Sox hit a foul pop-up over near the 1st base dugout. Cash tried to reach over the box seats to catch it but some fan threw a beer in his face. Cash jumped the short fence and went after the fan. Unfortunately for Cash, the guy was huge and gave him a forearm right across the throat. It took a whole bunch of security guards to restrain the guy and eject him. Cash had to leave the game and missed the second game that night.

That's what I call fan support.

Here's a fun question for everyone - what do you think was the "coolest" baseball player name of all time. Of course for football, it had to be "Fair Hooker". My submission is "Mordecai 3-finger Brown". Nicknames count.

That may be the winner, but let's keep going. BTW - at one time, the manager of the minor league team at Walla Walla was Cliff Ditto.

I remember reading that fact in one of Jim Bouton's books. FWIW, Jim Bouton went to my HS where he was second in the HS team pitching rotation to Jerry Colangelo! It's twue, it's twue!

First game of the double-header is in the books. Red Sox win 11-3. Timlin pitches 2 scoreless innings of relief (which should earn him a couple days off, according to Jerry Remy ) and Beckett picks up his 16th win of the season, which leads the bigs.

Clemens pitches tonight in Detroit. Detroit needs to win some games, so they're going to be tough.

From the looks of the radar, they better hurry and get the second game started.

Did you hear about the blonde who got fired from working on the M&M quality control line? She threw out all the W's.
