I don't utterly and unequivicaly hate Steve Welmer. It just doesn't suprise me to see him NOT working the 2nd round. Maybe Mr. Nichols is the President and CEO of the Steve Welmer Haters Society (SWHS) cause he hasn't moved him on even though he works all these big games and all these big conferences. Or maybe, just maybe, he doesn't get half his damn plays right and thats why Hank doesn't hire him for the Sweet 16 or further. I don't know I will leave it up to you to decide.

So you're saying getting less than half your damn plays right qualifies you for the first round.

Who knew there was such a shortage of D1 officials?

No, I'm saying Steve Welmer is Steve Welmer. He's going to get to work the tournament, he just won't go that far.

But you're saying someone who gets less than half his calls right can be selected to work the tournament.

How does that happen?

You also seem to be saying that it's an embarrassment somehow to get selected to work the tournament but only work 1 game.

You saying that?

Bitter, uncontrolled jealousy is my guess.

It's at the bottom of a lot of ugliness.

It's also on the surface.

If you don't remember it, chances are he did, and you were playing the game, and there was an awful lot of pants adjustments that night.

It is human nature. When someone accomplishes more than you have, it is really easy to find fault in those above you. It is really hard to look in the mirror and find fault in yourself.

Just look in the Bible and you can see how many stories involve jealousy and envy. These posts are no different.

Peace

Trust me when I say I am not the least bit jealous of Mr. Welmer. I guess he is just so exposed on television games, that he is the guy that you can pick out.

Two quick comments.

1. Last I checked, the officiating assignments for the tournament were made by the men's basketball committee, not Hank Nichols acting on his own. I'm sure he has some input (along with the evaluators from each 1st/2nd round site), but he's not the be all and end all of who gets assigned where in the tourney.

2. An official can be assigned a regional semifinal/final game without having worked a second-round game in the tournament.
