Not hating...just facts. Just because Kelley and Falk give this guy a ton of games, he really isn't much better than the averageg official. He can't run, mechanics are horrible, and play calling is suspect. He gets so many games because of his relationship with the supervisors. If he was so good, he would advance further than what he does. The man works over 100 plus games, but crunch time in the tourney, where is he? I don't work the NCAA either, but neither do I have Kelley and Falk in my pocket.
If he was evaluated like everyone else, he would not work as much as he does...that is why the he doesn't advance. It has nothing to do with whether or not he is a nice guy...he is a very nice guy and tells great jokes at camp. However, honestly break down a tape of his and critique objectively and you will see the facts speak for themselves. Which brings another question: why is it okay and acceptable for veterans to do WHATEVER they want when it comes to mechanics and the like? Are they bigger than the game? I relate this to police officers breaking a law because they feel like they can.

Welmer's deepest advancements 1998-2007
98 - Regional Semi (Kentucky over UCLA) 99 - 2nd Round (Florida over Weber St.) 00 - Regional Semi (Oklahoma St. over Seton Hall) 01 - 2nd Round (UCLA over Utah St.) 02 - Regional Semi (Maryland over Kentucky) 03 - 2nd Round (Auburn over Wake Forest) 04 - Regional Semi (St. Joseph's over Wake Forest) 05 - Regional Semi (Kentucky over Utah) 06 - 1st Round (Washington over Utah St.) 07 - 1st Round (North Carolina over E. Kentucky) Regardless of your feelings about his officiating, Welmer was essentially pegged as a Round of 32/Sweet 16 official, but his standing has appeared to slip in the last couple of years. |

Anyone this worried about Steve Welmer is focusing on the wrong thing. They should really be focusing on their significant case of cranial rectitus!! Move on. |

People were talking about it. I responded with info and an observation that a trained monkey could make looking at that info. You know, official forums sometimes talk about basketball officials. I happen to have the lists of officials for the last 10 years of the tourney, and thought it was relevant to the discussion. Sorry to have offended your sensibilities. |

Even I am ready to end this discussion and that is really saying a lot.
