Timeout question

A1 calls and is granted a timeout. Team A doesn't have any. Timeout is taken and tech is given after. POE doesn't apply to this situation correct? Two shots and ball at half court for Team B. My partner insisted on giving ball to A after shots. I can't find it in case book.

Try the rule book. NFHS rule 7-5-8.

POEs apply at all times and in all places. That is why the NFHS Rules Committee puts out Points of Emphasis every year!!!

He obviously means POI, not POE. He is also correct that it does not apply under NFHS rules to single technical fouls.

The POI rule is 4-36.

The excess time-out rule and penalty are listed in 10-1-7 and the accompanying penalty section.

10-1-7 . . . Request an excess time-out.
PENALTY: (Art. 7) Penalized when discovered.
PENALTY: (Section 1) Two free throws plus ball for division-line throw-in.

Maybe your partner thought you were using NCAAM rules. Maybe you were.

You could go POI in NFHS, if both teams simultaneously requested excess timeouts.

Excellent point, Bob. It is a POI situation in NCAA-Mens, but it certainly is not in NFHS.

and yes for those little wimmen folks out there we know that it is 2FTs plus possession in NCAAW.

7th grade tourney. We were at half-time, and I was rushing to find the case, or rule book interpretation. I was 99.9% sure I was right, but he insisted on doing it the wrong way. He has worked this tournament for a long time, and it was my first year here. So I deferred to him to keep going. Then I found the rule, and showed it to him. With INTERNET access here you guys helped me find it quicker. He now knows he was wrong. Thanks for all the help and quick response. I was in a hurry and typing fast that's why I put POE instead of POI. Thank again!
