Table Manners
My generic table sitch is one that usually occurs in about 1/2 my games. Home Team Mommys running the table.
Pre-game everybody likes Mike. Lots of smiles all around. Chatting Mike up. How bout that weather. Need anything we will take care of it. The Home team losing by 5. A little cooling off but still some minor pleasantries. The Home team down by 10. The fun and games are over. Just blind stares at me when I come over to check that everything adds up. The Home team down by 20. Just piercing eyes looking at me like I am the worst person they have ever come in contact with. It always amuses me how the table withdraws its love from me when their team is losing..... Had an ***'t coach try a fast one at the table last night. I'm lead. Foul on home team. basket counts. Shooting one. i report, visitors ask me to check the score. I check with home-scores good. I check with visitors scorer-scores good. I report to head coach both books agree. In the background Visitors ***'t coach is talking to Visitors scorer. i see her then write something in her book. then she starts waving her hands and yelling that score is wrong. I then tell home coach what transpired behind him as we were talking. Head coach then turns and starts barking at ***'t Coach. gave me a warm fuzzy feeling..... |

No I didn't . It never occurred to me to do that. Later when I am not so lazy I'll get out my rulebook and get all the pertinent references cause I do remember reading somewhere about charging them a TO.....

If I'm working with a scorer that has a tendency to...how to put this nicely.....screw up a one-car funeral, then I usually don't worry about charging a TO if I feel that the coach is honestly concerned and not just playing games. Last edited by Jurassic Referee; Wed Feb 14, 2007 at 09:19am. |

I had one that would just shake her head the whole time I was trying to report a foul. Also, don't you guys just hate the look down book keeper. You know the one thats already looking down before you report. Then you have a book error later on and have to spend time fixing it!!!

Announceer
We have one high school in our local area whose game announcer will announce the foul before you "officially" report it to the table. He watches for your "bird dog" signal and listens for you to announce the color and number of the fouler at the spot of the foul. Sometimes he's wrong. It can be very disconcerting to hear your foul call announced before you report it, especially if it's the wrong player whose foul is announced. I always have to remind him to please wait until I report the foul to the table. Otherwise he does a great job.
