Yes, we sureasheck do. If one of our officials steps outside our written Code of Conduct, we will censure, suspend or get rid of that official- dependent on the severity of the act. We hold our officials to a much higher standard than most coaches are held. If one of our officials ever called a coach a "moron, believeyoume he would be suspended. If it had happened before, he would be let go.

There's another noob here who posted the other day that his wife is so hot that all he wants to do is stay home and worship her.

If you miss your wife give her a call. Who knows, maybe the noob will be out doing the laundry and you'll get lucky.

btw...who's Scrapper?

What coaching forum can we go to and see your post, asking who to contact about the coach's actions?

Oh, that's the poster that has chastised the rest of us for snapping at some of the new posters. He's a Ranger fan though, so I'm not sure about him...

I'm off to go do some laundry.

Hey, wait a minute...

Do you think middle school games attract the best officials?

As a newer ref who has done a great many 'middle school' games, I believe I have heard a heck of a lot of "constructive criticism" from the fans, players, coaches, and other refs this yr. I know this is where I need to start. I try to take it all in stride and seperate the whining from the constructive criticism as I realize I still have a lot to learn and I miss calls. It's tough though sometimes that's for sure!
Yep, we all started there and middle school has the worst coaches, players and fans of any level.

Not an easy environment for someone learning the ropes.

My response is that this is a typical middle school situation. Most coaches at this level are parents and their only experience is in watching TV, they think they know it all and they aren't smart enough to pick their spots and use discretion to properly communicate with officials. Most new officials at this level are intimidated by the commentary of fans and especially fanboy coaches, consequently, these coaches gain control of the game rather than the refs, and that leads to situations like this. The official involved clearly did not have the mindset to deal with the situation, and the assistant coach was way out of line. As with for the officials, administrators are simply happy to have someone coaching the team, and so they end up with this. Middle school basketball should be about developing skills on all levels, particularly communication. Most new refs don't last beyond this level because there is too much crap to deal with and they don't have either the tools or the skin to deal with it.

Wondered when that question was going to get asked. You could refer him to the nfhs.org site to post on the coaches site. Oh. I guess I just did. Looking forward to your post, dmz.

And, by the way, I have been a referee in the past, just not now as I have school age kids and want to spend my time watching them play ball.
This one has been knawing at me for awhile, and I just figured out what it is. This guy claims he used to be an official. I now proclaim: BULLSHIRT! No official, current or former would ever try to throw a fellow official under the bus for something as silly as what was described in the OP.

Unless this guy was part of OS's crew, he's no more an official than my 2 year old son. That makes him either a liar or someone who was drummed out of the brotherhood for some nefarious action and he has an axe to grind. i wonder which it is.

Unless they are only coaching Freshman basketball, then it's alright.

Honestly I would say the same thing. All games should be kept in perspective. Anything below the varsity level should be purely fun for all participants. It is not to judge everyone on some unattainable level because some fan was upset who never has officiated a "real game" in his life.

Peace

Actually I say the same thing. My objection is when someone describes a scenario and someone else responds that they shouldn't worry about it b/c it's only XYZ level of basketball.

If a person comes here in here with a legitimate question about rules application he shouldn't be criticized for asking the question just b/c he's only coaching Freshman basketball.

The person did not have a legitimate question about any rule or application that was not answered. Also this was not a coach, it was a fan. Also it is very debatable if the official actually did anything wrong based on the actions of the OP. Talking to a fan is not in itself a violation of any written code of conduct that the NF puts out and not of any that I have ever read anywhere. I had a fan ask me a question a couple of weeks ago and I was standing right next to them. They asked what I perceived to be a very legitimate question and the conversation was very cordial. We are after all human beings.

But if this was a Freshman coach and they were asking something like this in a HS game, the response would be similar. The actions of the coach were worse if you ask me and we have the right to point that out. Now if those cannot stand this, then take that conversation to a coaching site and complain there. I know I do not go to coaching sites and complain about coaching decisions. If I did I would expect a similar response if I told coaches they have no idea what they are doing.

Peace

You are correct...but on the other hand, if a person comes on this board and says (paraphrasing here) "Hey, this ref I had screwed up and I'm mad about it so what can I do? Oh, and by the way I was an azz earlier, but that doesn't really matter." then you can probably expect them to get jumped on some...and in the jumping, the fact that he/she is in reality only coaching freshman ball will probably be pointed out to them. Same way that coming on the board and complaining that a ref was unprofessional after being screamed at by some fan and called a moron by a freaking middle school assistant coach (what the hell is a middle school assistant coach anyway??) will probably get you blasted too...
