Look before you leap (or signal)

Boys JV game, two man, 4th quarter. Team A coach calls time out, linebacker sized official blows whistle, turns to table, gives signal for full timeout, smacks B1 in nose, resulting in profuse nose bleed.

I've never seen this before, but some of us in the stands expected this. Earlier in the game, he almost hit another player signalling a PC foul. Lucky it wasn't a team control foul, I guess.

For what? To tell their son to wear a football helmet?

I agree. this is NOT good... but the official isn't the only one who needs to use better observation skills. The kid could have given the ref a little more space, because he HAD to know the official was going to signal a timeout
DOUBLE FOUL! haha

Yeah, not good. Why isn't the official waiting for the players to get to their benches before reporting the time-out to the table?

Is there a rules citation saying that he has to before signalling the TO?
