Interesting situation

Had this occur in a game over the weekend, still kinda curious about the call. I will try to be as precise as I can with the description

A1 dribbling and attacks the basket. A1 trips over B1's foot (no foul called, which was probably correct.) As A1 is falling down, he continues his dribble with one hand and is using his off hand to try to regain footing and get upright again. He is unable to do this and falls the rest of the way so that he is lying prone on court. just before he lands, he traps the ball against the court with the hand he was dribbling with. Travel was called immediately when he hit the ground.

any opinions, and or rules citations?

Thanks in advance

Sounds to me like he was not holding the ball when he fell to the ground. So no travel. Pinning the ball to the floor is neither holding nor dribbling the ball, imo.

4-45-5: A player holding the ball may not touch the floor with a knee or any other part of the body other than hand or foot.

Apparently in the judgment of the official, the player was holding the ball when he went to the floor.

I would have nothing from your explanation, no control, no travel.

Unless your dribbler was actually able to palm the ball with control, thus holding it, as he went to the ground, no call.

My opinion would be that he was dribbling when he fell to the floor, thus no travel.

I agree, no call, you can't travel while dribbling the ball.
