Question Gray Shirts in subvarsity ball?

Two nights ago, I showed up early for our team's CYO tournament game. At the game in progress upon my arrival, I noticed the officials were wearing gray shirts for what looked like a 6th or 7th grade boys game.

It made me wonder if grey shirts really are permissible on this level (CYO in my area being divided in varsity for grades 7 and 8 and JV for grades 5 and 6).

Not according to the NFHS. But locally, they may have made a different decision.

Our local Assn. voted to go to greys before last season. Thus, any level we cover has greys...middle school, JV and varsity. I believe our state Assn. allows each local group the option.

And just for the record...is it grey or gray?

In many states 6th or 7th grade games are not played under state governing bodies. So the officials could wear whatever they want, or what their association will allow.

And there are places that association has no say either. If I work 6th and 7th grade games in many places, the only people that would have a say is the assignor (if they even care) what the officials wear. Most of the time the only requirement is a warm body to work the game.

Peace

We, FIBA, are gray. Only British officials are grey, according to Merriam-Webster.

But Euroleague officials wear a horrible orange shirt.

Ciao

I think as long as you match, so be it, play ball!. Then again, they didn't ask me, so I'll stick to the black and white stripes. I know we've had this discussion before, but I'm pretty sure it will be a long, long time before Illinois is ever allowed to wear the greys legally.

In Georgia, the private schools have allowed officials to utilize the gray shirts for all of their games. Public schools continue to adhere to the black and white stripes.

Interesting...
around here, the schools don't have a say in what color we wear...our Association does.

Btw...we have decided to wear either black and white or gray...as long as the crew is the same of course.

Maybe I should have been a little clearer. The GA Independent School Association (State Governing Body) instituted the change to gray at the recommendation of several local Associations. We've had no such luck with the public school governing body.

We are allowed to wear either stripes or gray as long as the crew matches.

I cannot remember the last time anyone on my crew wanted to wear stripes.

The schools do not have any input on official's uniforms. Only our state officials association makes that call and they gave permission for gray (in addition to stripes) about 3 years ago.
