I hear ya. I just do not consider the official start to the season until I am working on a regular basis. When I did work JH a lot before the "regular season" began, I did not work enough to consider that much of anything. I might work one week 1 game, and then go a couple of weeks before another game. I think it comes down to your personal perspective. I just worked a few basketball games just last week.

Peace

Yep, that's it. October 5th and then my next one isn't until the end of the month. So it will certainly be a quick warm-up before the next one.

The official start of my season is designated by my first coach ejection.

Maybe we need some clarification around the term "season"... "Coach hunting" may happen any place, any time... It's kinda permanent open season.
Seriously though, here we have all sorts of competitions running almost all the time, except for a break from mid-December to mid-February.

Is this an example of seasons being reversed in the southern hemispere?

Indeed... We celebrate Christmas by going to the beach. Summer break at schools is between mid Dec and mid February.

Who the heck starts October 5th? Must be a girls IESA team? My first (I only have 2 so far... still getting my name out in the area) is November 16. JH Boys - IESA. Also have one JV ... hope I start to fill up soon. Starting over in a new part of the state takes time.

If I were basketball only (also work football), I might like to see a girls' season early followed by a boys' season. I think the schools might even like that, as it would free up gyms for both practice and games. Of course, I might tire of hoops by December, when the boys/college season is just getting going.

Frankly, until I saw certain early starting seasons on this board, I had no idea anyone started playing interscholastic basketball until early November (very late October at the absolute earliest).
